All you are really doing is strengthening your core muscles underneath by doing sit-ups, which is important, but isn’t going to get you a toned tummy.

Instead what you need to be doing is cardio to burn the fat. That’s why you’ll see athletes who focus on high intensity cardio type events such as runners and sprint swimmers with great toned bodies – they’ve lost the fat and therefore the muscle definition can come through.

Low intensity cardio such as jogging is ok, but isn’t going to get you there fast enough so you really need to be doing something that will really get the fat melting off.

The best form of cardio exercises is anything that combines high and low intensity bursts of energy. The stationary bike or treadmill is perfect for this. A good high intensity fat burning ratio to get a flat stomach fast is sprinting for around 8 seconds followed by a 30 second slower recovery. Keep alternating between sprint and recovery for a total of 20 minutes every second day.
