SELF Fitness – Playground workout with Jessica Szohr from YouTube
Who has spare money for the gym these days? Advertising would have you believe that exercise is a privilege for the wealthy (personal trainers, expensive treadmills) but never fear because this article will give you some free exercise tips by heading to your local park for your daily workout. Most parks today have a wide array of activities that you can do to target your fat zones and muscle groups and best of all it won’t cost you a cent.
Most areas have access to a park and whether it is big or small you will be able to use it to your advantage. If your park is large or has a playing field then a quick jog around the perimeter will burn fat fast. To make it fun try challenging yourself – time yourself once round and on the second lap see if you can beat your personal best. You can also add in interval training by combining sprints of two to four minutes between each lap.
Most parks have park benches and these are great for working out your upper arms with tricep dips. Just stand facing away from the bench and lift yourself up and down with your arms keeping your legs bent at a 90 degree angle. You can also use the bench for step-ups for a great leg workout. Because a bench seat is usually higher than a regular aerobic step you be able to challenge yourself for a higher intensity workout.
Push-ups and lunges can be done just about anywhere there is a flat surface. To make it softer on your hands, exercise on the grass instead of hard concrete paths.
Of course local parks are not just about regular workouts they can also provide great exercise with lots of fun too. Why not grab the dog and a Frisbee and have some fun at the same time. Frisbee throwing can be a great workout for the upper arms and think of all the cardio you’ll burn while playing with your dog. If your friends are more the human two legged variety then grab a ball and have a game of touch football or basketball. Working out with a friend has been shown to increase motivation so you are much more likely to stick with your exercise program so why not make it a regular match.
You may even be lucky enough to have a park which has a fitness course or exercise stations scattered throughout it. If that’s the case you have no excuses so get outside into the fresh air and have yourself a fun free workout.
I hope you’ve enjoyed your free exercise tips.
