Can you really lose weight while sleeping? Sounds too good to be true doesn’t it! Just nod off for the night and when you wake up you’ll be slimmer.
Of course losing weight is hard at the best of times so to be able to drop pounds while you sleep seems a dream if it was real, so let’s look in more detail at how it’s supposed to work.
According to medical evidence it seems that there is a major link between sleep and weight.
The basis of how to lose weight while sleeping works as while you are sleeping many hormones increase in their activity in not only helping to rebuild and repair tissue and muscle damage done that day but also by suppressing hunger and satiety.
This is why some scientists believe that people that get less than 6 hours of sleep per night are often overweight – because the body hasn’t has a chance to repair, rebuild and burn excess fat in the process.
The two main hormones that are significant in the study were leptin and ghrelin which are responsible for appetite.
So by getting more sleep, it is recommended to get at least 8 hours of uninterrupted snoozing per night, you’ll be able to improve your weight loss.
You probably have felt the effects of this yourself. If you’ve ever had a bad night’s sleep, the next day it seems that no matter how much you eat you can’t seem to get satisified.
That’s because leptin levels are down (they are responsible for feeling full) and ghrelin levels are up (they stimulate your appetite) therefore you are constantly craving more food.
Some people have even taken this to the next level and created sleep diets. These diets take into account the changing levels of hormones in your body throughout the day and night.
Another way many people are using sleep to lose weight is through hypnosis. By putting on a hypnosis CD while you are falling to sleep you can listen to weight loss messages subconsciously such as ‘eat healthy’, ‘avoid sugar’ and ‘you like exercising’.
Many people have used this method of becoming slimmer very successfully with hypnosis for weight loss becoming big business.
Apparently once thoughts become hypnotized into the brain it is much easier to stick with them, no willpower required.
One such dieter who lost weight while sleeping is Christine Donohoe who used hypnosis tapes to help her drop 65 pounds over 7 months.
“I would have to say it’s my subconscious working. I never had a craving, never had a desire. I just feel 100 percent better than I didâ€, said Donohoe.
It makes losing weight while sleeping seem like a pretty good idea to me, now where’s my cd player?
